1. What's your registration process?
Before you proceed, please make sure you meet the following requirements:
You currently live in a market in which Over Line, Inc has an office-Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York or San Francisco
You have a minimum of two years professional experience in a marketing, advertising, communications or creative discipline and you've worked in this field during the last year
You are available to work right now as a freelancer. Or, if you're in a full-time job, you can make yourself available to meet with us after hours or for client interviews. If you can say 'absolutely' to all of the above, then:
Send a resume to the Over Line, Inc office nearest you with a cover letter that briefly describes your current employment situation
If your credentials fit our specs and we need your skill set for current or expected assignments, we'll call to schedule a time to meet with you personally
At the interview, we get to know you and your work, and then give you the details on how Over Line, Inc operates
We ask for professional references from you before the interview. Once satisfactory references are received, you're entered into our talent base of available Associates
It's that simple.
2. What's the registration timeline?
We review resumes daily. If you have a skill in high demand, and you make yourself available to come in for an interview, the registration process takes only a few days. Otherwise, it typically takes about three business weeks from the time we receive your resume to becoming an active part of our talent pool.
3. How do I know I'm in good hands?
Commitment: Our focus has always been on interim professional staffing for the MACC [marketing, advertising, communications, creative] industries and we're the leader in this niche. Over Line, Inc' s Chairman is an officer on the board of the industry's largest national trade group-the American Staffing Association [www.staffingtoday.net]. We strive to form strong relationships with our Associates to better act as staffing consultants for you and for our clients.
Quality: As a Over Line, Inc Associate, you'll be in very good company. Our Associates are experienced and excel at what they do. We are extremely selective in our qualification process and accept only those individuals with at least two years of practical work experience-which breaks down to accepting and registering less than 30% of the resumes we receive. Our average Associate has over five years of professional experience in a particular field.
Our clients expect Over Line, Inc Associates to be highly qualified individuals who perform with no lag time or learning curve. For this reason, you will be placed in positions utilizing skills you currently possess.
We have a thorough application and screening process. We personally interview you and check three professional references. Over Line, Inc staff members have backgrounds in the same disciplines we recruit. You benefit from working with people who understand you and your business.
Proven Performance: We work with the top Fortune 1000(r) corporations and the nation's finest advertising, communications and professional services organizations. We work on over 7,000 assignments from 1,000 companies per year. And we have an outstanding repeat rate with our clients as we attract and retain you-the best talent the industry has to offer because we offer competitive wages and the opportunity to work in great positions at the best companies.
You are a valuable asset to us. Your priorities are our priorities-expertise, quality, responsiveness, and flexibility. Our goal is to partner with you so that we can help you meet your career goals and objectives.
| 4. What's the difference between what Over Line, Inc does and what headhunters or reps do?
|
The Grand Canyon.
What Over Line, Inc does:
We deal with thousands of job orders that range from temporary to project-based to full-time
We register junior to senior-level candidates who are either freelance professionals or who are looking for full-time work
We have an exacting qualification process and data system to record candidates' credentials which allows us to make precise matches to our clients' job specifications
We partner with a PEO [professional employer organization], and together, we act as the employer of record, which means:
We pay Associates as employees
We make the employer contributions of withholding taxes for FICA, Medicare and for state and federal unemployment-valued at almost 10% of earnings
We carry general liability and workers' compensation insurance, which covers our Associates while they are on Over Line, Inc assignments
We're 100% responsible for an Associate's performance while on assignment
We make certain benefits available to Associates
401(k) plans, health cost savings programs and other valuable perks
We do not charge our Associates for our services
We recruit our own staff from marketing, advertising, communications and creative disciplines, so we fully understand the positions that we place-and we can explain them clearly to you
What headhunters or recruiters do:
They deal primarily with permanent placements and receive a fee from the client when they find the right candidate
They do not act as employer of record for their candidates
What reps or agents do:
They deal primarily with creative professionals who must sell their work to art buyers, creative directors, design managers and other purchasers of commercial creative work
They do not function as the employer of record
They make money when the talent they represent sells work via a percentage of the sale
| 5. Where does your revenue come from if you're not charging me a fee?
|
Most Over Line, Inc assignments pay on an hourly rate basis, although a day or project rate may sometimes be negotiated depending on the assignment. The rate is a figure mutually agreed to by the Associate and Over Line, Inc and may vary from job to job, based on our client's specifications. Over Line, Inc makes money on the difference between what we pay you for your time and what we charge the client for that same time. Our revenue comes from our clients.
| 6. I'm a successful, self-employed independent professional. Why should I apply to Over Line, Inc?
|
Over Line, Inc can be a back-up source of work when you are not busy, or if you want to expand your exposure to other companies and clients. You make the call. When we present a job to you, it is your choice whether or not you would like to be considered for it. If you are busy with your own projects, we will continue to call you for assignments provided that our clients' needs match your skill set. It doesn't take a lot of time to register, and it costs nothing.
Remember, Over Line, Inc is your additional marketing partner. We can help enhance your career while you are working, freelancing or looking for another job. Most likely, you will have the chance to work on a broad range of assignments that you might not have access to on your own.
And while you're part of our team, you receive great benefits, perks, networking opportunities, and a sense of community.
7. Can Over Line, Inc help me find a full-time job?
Yes, but only if you are already in our database. We typically don't recruit people to fill full-time jobs who already have a permanent job, the way a headhunter or recruiter would do. That's not the majority of our business. Most of the full-time jobs we fill are called temp-to-hire or trial hire. To support our temp-to-hire placements, we offer a unique try before you buy option, which allows you the opportunity to work temporarily for a firm before accepting a full-time position. Your test-drive will give both you and your employer 100% confidence before you make the commitment to convert to the client's payroll and a full-time job.
| 8. I can only work from my home office. Will Over Line, Inc have jobs for me?
|
Yes, as long as you are available to meet the client at his or her location for an interview before you land the job and are flexible enough to attend project meetings. Many Associates with a minimum on site commitment complete the majority of their Over Line, Inc assignments at a home studio or office.
| 9. Can you pay me as in independent contractor and report my Over Line, Inc earnings on a 1099?
|
No. Over Line, Inc assignments are work situations that fall within the IRS guidelines establishing an employee/employer relationship. We are the employer of record for tax related purposes. For example, your pay is never at risk as it could be if you were an independent contractor. Even if Over Line, Inc' s client doesn't pay us for your time, we pay you the agreed-to rate on our regular payroll schedule.
We also have many Associates who work as independent contractors for their own clients and work as Associates on Over Line, Inc assignments. These Associates report income from their own clients on a 1099 and Over Line, Inc assignment income on a W-2. The government accepts both 1099s and W-2s in a single tax year. *Please consult your accountant or attorney on tax and legal matters.
| 10. As an Associate, can I work through other staffing companies or have my own clients?
|
Absolutely. Most likely, we won't keep you busy full-time. We encourage you to continue marketing yourself as you always have and to register with as many staffing agencies as you choose.
| 11. As an Associate, how busy can I expect to be with Over Line, Inc jobs?
|
Every Over Line, Inc office differs in the skills they place, the staffing demands of their particular market, and that office's clients. All these factors make it difficult to know precisely how often any Associate will be placed. Keep us updated on what you're doing work-wise and always notify us of any address, phone or e-mail changes. Keep the information in your Over Line, Inc file current so we can reach you for assignments.
12. What if I don't like the jobs you call me about?
When our search identifies you as a candidate for a job, we call you and discuss the job in detail. Then you decide if you're interested or not. We can often negotiate with our client to bring their demands more in line with your preferences, for example, convincing a client to allow an Associate a more flexible timeline or a more workable on/off site arrangement.
13. Who decides how much?
We know what you want to be paid from your application and interview and will call you only for jobs that fit the pay range you have given us. If you are willing to be flexible with your pay rate, let us know. This flexibility may open more opportunities for you. In the end, the decision is always yours as to whether or not we present you as a candidate for any job.
| 14. What if I'm moving to a new city where Over Line, Inc has an office?
|
As long as you meet the criteria in FAQ number one, you can follow the same application process. Contact Over Line, Inc after you have arrived in the new city at 877-932-7771. Or come back to our site and register.
| 15. What if I'm considering a career change within my industry, will Over Line, Inc be able to help me find opportunities?
|
It depends. If you are a marketing communications manager who wants to focus more on copywriting, Over Line, Inc may be able to help you provided you have samples, solid experience, and a portfolio. If you do not have any prior experience in the communications industry, we may not be your best option. Our clients are looking for people who can hit the ground running, so you need to have current, relevant experience to produce quality work quickly and efficiently.
